When we moved into our new house I knew I wanted to get our paper towels off of the counter. 1-the stand I already had barely fit under the cabinet and 2-I knew I wanted the least amount of things on the counter as possible. We gained so much counter space in our new kitchen and I wanted to keep it clutter-free! I looked and looked online and in stores and I never could find any under-cabinet holders that I liked!. So then I started searching how to make one myself and came across one I loved on Home Talk! I’m loving the industrial look that’s trending right now & I knew this would match perfectly with the shelf I built above my kitchen sink & my new faucet that’s on the way! I bought everything I needed at Home Depot!

Things you’ll need:

  • 1/2 in. threaded galvanized floor flange
  • 1/2 in. galvanized cap
  • 1/2 in. galvanized 90° FPT x FPT elbow
  • 1/2 in. X 12 in. galvanized nipple
  • 1/2 in. X 4 in. galvanized nipple
  • Primer spray paint that will adhere to metal
  • Black (or color of your choice) spray paint that will adhere to metal
  • Degreasing cleaner & rag
  • Basic nuts/bolts to attach to your cabinet (just make sure the head of the bolt is wide enough so it doesn’t slip through the holes on the floor flange)
  • Drill & drill bit for drilling holes under cabinet

Prep:

When you buy your pieces they will have an oily film on them. Clean them with any degreasing cleaner and wipe dry. You can buy these in galvanized or black – I would suggest the galvanized over the black because they weren’t as oily. You can leave them as is or paint them as I did! I primed and painted mine before putting it together, but I’m sure you could put it together and then paint it! Whichever you prefer to do! When painting make sure you do several light coats to avoid your paint from running! I did two coats of primer & two coats of black. I let mine dry overnight before doing anything else with it!

How to assemble the paper towel holder:

You’ll screw everything together like the picture above. I just hand tightened mine & it has been perfectly fine! If you wanted you could use a thread locker to make sure everything stays in place, but I found that I didn’t need it!

Attaching to your cabinet:

Once you have it assembled…decide where you want it to go! Keep in mind you are going to have nuts and bolts inside your cabinet! So, make sure they won’t be in the way of where you place your dishes. Hold it there and mark your holes with a pencil! TIP: Wherever you decide to place it..make sure to place it where you will tear your paper towel towards the 4 in. nipple! If you tear away from it you’ll more than likely pull the entire roll of paper towels off the holder! I mounted mine to the right of the sink. So the 2 in. nipple is closest to the sink and the end cap is facing away from the sink. Next, you will drill through the holes you marked! Once all four of your holes are drilled, you will attach your paper towel holder by pushing the bolts through your flange and drilled holes, and then attaching your nuts! Be sure to fully tighten these using pliers or it will wiggle around…and we don’t want that!

This is what it looks like inside my cabinet!

That is it! Probably one of the easiest DIY’s I’ve ever done. It’s easy, affordable, and one of a kind!
